Civic Participation Program

Together with Long Beach residents, workers, teachers and students, we are working to transform the City of Long Beach into a more progressive city that will enact policies which will support workers and their families. We plan to target voters in North and West Long Beach. Our program, Long Beach Rising! consists of three components: leadership development, alliance-building, and canvassing voters.

Long Beach Rising! Civic Engagement Program Targeting Long Beach Voters

  • Leadership Development:  In early December 2011, over 30 local residents participated in the Long Beach Rising! Leadership Program to learn skills in community organizing and voter engagement.  Participants completed a series of 4-days intensive training to understand strategies to strengthen civic engagement and community organizing around issues of social, economic, and environmental justice.
  • Alliance-Building:  In partnership with over 15 community-based organizations, the Long Beach Rising! Civic Engagement Committee was formed to focus on strategies to strengthen civic engagement in Long Beach and plan the first People’s State of the City event on February 29th, 2012.
  • Canvassing Program:  To engage residents to become more civically engaged, the Civic Engagement Committee crafted a community pledge to identify key issues residents face and inspire residents to pledge to vote and support a fair and sustainable Long Beach for everyone.

Long Beach Community Action Pledge

  • The Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs & a Healthy Community believes that the best way to achieve a Long Beach that works for everyone is to work with the community to pass innovative policies that will create good jobs, thriving communities and a healthy environment. As such, the Coalition is partnering with other community organizations and allies to work with local government to craft policies that benefit every resident of Long Beach.

The Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs & a Healthy Community is engaged in non-partisan voter outreach efforts. We do not endorse any specific candidates.
